Data Visualization Forensics: Techniques to Detect and Debunk Data Deceptions Description

Data visualizations are increasingly prominent and influential. At the same time, they have become ever easier to create with the proliferation of tools like Excel and Tableau. Identifying data-driven deceptions (both accidental and intentional) is therefore an important part of data-literacy and evidence-based reasoning. This webinar will look at several case studies, ranging from basic to tricky. Participants will learn how to detect deceptive data visualizations and acquire techniques to decode and debunk them.

As a result of this webinar, participants will:

  • Learn to detect and interpret various misleading uses of data visualization.
  • Understand how data visualizations are used or misused.
  • Understand how to make better and more authoritative visualizations.
